The 2024 Clash of the Titans Strongman took place on December 29 in Vlissingen, Netherlands. Importantly, six athletes from two countries competed in a high-stakes, single-day showdown. Moreover, the event featured five demanding disciplines: Gouden Grip Medley, Car Deadlift for Reps, Stone Medley, Loading Race, and Yoke for Time.

To begin, the Gouden Grip Medley tested competitors’ grip strength with 12 progressively heavier weights. Additionally, each athlete had just two minutes to complete the task. Ultimately, this opening event set the stage for the intense battles that followed.

Meanwhile, Jeroen van de Wateringen emerged as the standout performer. Notably, he secured first place in four of the five events, demonstrating unmatched consistency and skill. However, his only stumble came during the Gouden Grip Medley, where he narrowly finished in second place.

Furthermore, despite that early setback, van de Wateringen dominated the remainder of the competition. Consequently, his final score of 28.5 out of 30 points secured a decisive victory. Lastly, overall, his performance underscored his status as the clear champion of the event.

  • Ruben Tissink: Weight 12, 60 seconds
  • Michael Simons: Weight 10, 40 seconds

The Gouden Grip Medley tested grip strength and stamina using weights ranging from 17.5 to 25 kilograms. Furthermore, in just 56 seconds, Jeroen van de Wateringen completed all 12 weights, securing the top spot. Similarly, Yannick Dominicus matched the feat but needed only 50 seconds, highlighting his speed.

However, Ruben Tissink also completed all 12 weights but took a full 60 seconds. Meanwhile, Michael Simons struggled to keep pace, managing 10 weights in 40 seconds. On the other hand, Robrecht Oostelbos completed nine weights in 65 seconds, reflecting the difficulty of this event.

Ultimately, van de Wateringen’s strength and endurance shone brightest in this challenge. With impressive performances from the top three, the event set the stage for a fierce competition ahead. Clearly, grip strength played a pivotal role in determining early leaders.

  • Yannick Dominicus: 10 reps
  • Michael Simons: Six reps (T-third)

The Car Deadlift for Reps demanded maximum strength as athletes performed as many reps as possible in one minute. Right from the start, Jeroen van de Wateringen set the bar high with an astonishing 20 reps. Meanwhile, Yannick Dominicus delivered a strong second-place finish with 10 reps.

In a tie for third, Michael Simons and Robrecht Oostelbos each completed six reps. However, despite their efforts, they couldn’t match the explosive power displayed by van de Wateringen. At the other end of the spectrum, Ruben Tissink managed only one rep, underscoring the event’s difficulty.

As the dust settled, van de Wateringen’s lead became even more commanding. With each event, his dominance grew clearer. Undoubtedly, his performance in the deadlift set him apart as a favorite for the overall title.

Meanwhile, Ruben Tissink managed to lift all three stones as well but struggled with speed, earning just two points. At the bottom of the leaderboard, Robrecht Oostelbos lifted only one stone, which left him in last place for the event.

In third, Ruben Tissink completed the course in 21.41 seconds, narrowly edging out Robrecht Oostelbos, who finished in 24.3 seconds. At the bottom, Yannick Dominicus lagged behind, finishing the course in 33 seconds, which impacted his overall standing.
