Set against the vibrant backdrop of Sydney, the 2024 Australia’s Strongest Man & Woman competitions unfolded on April 19-20. Furthermore, bringing together the nation’s top Strongmen and Strongwomen, the event showcased eight demanding challenges to determine the most versatile athletes worthy of national acclaim.

Strongman Division Event Recap & Highlights (Top 8)

Event 1 — Max Log Lift

Firstly, In the initial event of the 2024 Australia’s Strongest Man competition, athletes aimed to lift the heaviest Log possible. Moreover, with three attempts each, judges upheld standard rules.

Additionally, the Log Lift event was intense, with competitors vying for supremacy. However, Brenton Stone clinched victory by overhead pressing a remarkable 190-kilogram (418.9-pound) Log. Close behind were Coraboeuf and Wren, lifting just a few pounds less.

  • Brenton Stone — 190 kilograms
  • Jean-Stephen Coraboeuf — 187.5 kilograms
  • Thomas Wren — 185 kilograms
  • Macauley Tinker — 182.5 kilograms
  • Jordan Osborne — 175 kilograms

  • Jihad El Masri — 165 kilograms
  • Reece Kirby — 165 kilograms

Event 2 — Farmer’s Walk

Secondly, in the Farmer’s Walk event, athletes were tasked with carrying two implements weighing 160 kilograms (352.7 pounds) over a distance of 20 meters. However, the objective was to complete the course in the shortest time possible, with the option to drop and pick up the implements.

Furthermore, Jordan Osborne showcased unmatched grip strength and agility in Australia. Also, despite the hefty load, Osborne blazed through the event, completing it in a mere 12.46 seconds, securing maximum points.

Event 3 — Flag Raise

Thirdly, in this event – athletes were tasked with lifting four progressively heavier Flags in the shortest time possible, permitted to use gloves and chalk but no other grip aids.

Jordan Osborne continued to excel in the dynamic events, emerging as the fastest to lift all four implements. Among the 17-man lineup, he was the sole athlete to finish the event in less than half a minute.

Event 4 — Car Flip

The fourth event demanded sheer brute strength as competitors tackled the challenge of flipping over a car of undisclosed weight, then flipping it back to its original position.

Furthermore, Continuing his streak – Jordan Osborne clinched his third consecutive event win with a remarkable performance in the Car Flip event. Also, despite a brief contest with Tinker, Osborne secured victory by a narrow margin of just half a second.

Event 5 — Overhead Medley

Fifth, the Overhead Medley event presented athletes with the challenge of pressing three implements overhead: a 140-kg (308.6-lb) Log, followed by a 90-kg (198.4-lb) Dumbbell, and concluding with a 150-kg (330.7-lb) Anchor Yoke.

Additionally, following his victory in the Log Lift event, Brenton Stone showcased his prowess as the top overhead presser in the lineup. Moreover, With ease – he lifted all three implements in the Overhead Medley, securing yet another event victory.

Event 6 — Deadlift

In the deadlift event, athletes faced the unique challenge of using the Stone Bar implement, aiming to complete as many reps as possible without the assistance of figure eight straps or deadlift suits.

Furthermore, while most participants struggled to perform even a single rep, Brenton Stone and Jean-Stephen Coraboeuf demonstrated exceptional strength by locking out eight reps each. Also, their performance set them apart from the rest of the field, resulting in a tie for first place.

Moreover, the Freight Race tested both the physical and mental resilience of the competitors, with pain endurance playing a significant role. Also, three athletes distinguished themselves in this grueling challenge, separated by a mere 0.25 seconds. Ultimately, Brenton Stone secured the winning edge, once again claiming maximum points.

To conclude the 2024 Australia’s Strongest Man competition, athletes faced the challenge of loading five progressively heavier stones over a 1.3-meter high beam, ranging in weight from 160-kg (352.7-lb) to 210-kg (463-lb).

Lastly, the final stone in the Atlas Series presented a formidable challenge, surpassing weights seen in certain high-level international competitions. Moreover, It came as no surprise that only one athlete, Ryan Rullis, successfully lifted it. Consequently, he emerged victorious in the final event of the competition.

Strongwoman Division Event Recap

In the 2024 Australia’s Strongest Woman competition, athletes adhered to the same rules as those in the Strongest Man competition, with the only variation being the implements used. Furthermore, below are the weight and specifications of the implements used by the Strongwomen:

  • Log Lift: 117.5 kilograms
  • Farmer’s Walk: Implements weighing 90 kilograms each
  • Car Deadlift: Car of undisclosed weight
  • Overhead Medley: Log (140 kg), Dumbbell (90 kg), Anchor Yoke (150 kg)
  • Tire Flip: Weight not specified
  • Deadlift: Stone Bar implement
  • Atlas Series: Stones ranging from 160-kg to 210-kg

Event 1 — Max Log Lift

In the first event of the 2024 Australia’s Strongest Woman competition, athletes aimed to lift the heaviest Log possible within three attempts.

However, the tension was palpable in the opening event of the competition, with the top three athletes closely matched. Also, despite the narrow margins, Katie Blunden emerged as the standout performer in the Log Lift, showcasing her strength and skill.

Event 2 — Farmer’s Walk

In the Farmer’s Walk event, athletes were tasked with carrying two 110-kg (242.5-lb) implements in each hand over a 20-meter distance.

Nicole Genrich’s performance in the Farmer’s Walk stood out as a remarkable display of dominance in both the men’s and women’s competitions. Not only was she one of just three athletes to complete the event, but her impressive time of 13.88 seconds was nearly twice as fast as the second-place finisher.

In the farmers carry segment, distances covered were as follows:

  • Sarah Hallifax — 18.90 meters

  • Nichole Wight — 10 meters
  • Liz Aitken — 8.50 meters

Unfortunately, Katie Blunden was unable to complete the course, covering a distance of 4.80 meters.

Event 3 — Flag Raise

In the Flag Raise event, the weight of the four Flag implements was not specified.

Furthermore, Nicole Genrich maintained her momentum with a second consecutive event victory in the Flag Raise. However, securing this win required significant effort, as Ari Mann finished less than two seconds behind her.

In the Overhead Medley event, Strongwomen began by overhead pressing an 80-kg (176.4-lb) Log, followed by a 50-kg (110.2-lb) Dumbbell, and concluded with a 90-kg (198.4-lb) Anchor Yoke.

Notably, Katie Blunden interrupted Nicole Genrich’s event win streak by triumphing in the Overhead Medley event. Moreover, Blunden’s exceptional power and technique proved formidable for Genrich to contend with.

  • Ari Mann: 3 lifts in 16.20 seconds

Furthermore, despite already securing first place overall, Nicole Genrich refused to hold back in the final event. Also, demonstrating her determination, she completed the entire series of Atlas Stones in just 41.10 seconds, securing her fifth event win of the competition.
