The 2023 Rogue Invitational, unfolding from October 26 to 29 at the Dell Diamond Stadium in Round Rock, TX, combines the strength of CrossFit and Strongman divisions, assembling a field of 50 athletes. However, with the intensity of the competition, injuries were an ever-present specter. Unfortunately, several athletes were forced to withdraw due to these untimely setbacks.
Trey Mitchell (Strongman)
Tragedy struck on the first day of the 2023 Rogue Invitational Strongman, as Trey Mitchell made a triumphant start by securing a victory in the Tower of Power Deadlift for Reps. However, a dark turn of events unfolded during the Iron Bull Sled Pull event, where Trey Mitchell stumbled and remained grounded for an extended period. Medical attention was swiftly provided, and further assessments confirmed a torn Achilles tendon, preventing him from continuing. Mitchell later took to Instagram to confirm his withdrawal and shared his sentiments regarding the unfortunate incident.
“Without a doubt, I came into the Rogue Invitational more prepared than I have ever been for a competition. Absolutely everything dialed in and my performance in the deadlift was only teaser to what I knew I was capable of.
Unfortunately, the sled pull had different plans for us all today and I went down. As you can clearly see my right foot in the video sustained a full Achilles tear. I meet with an orthopedic surgeon in morning and will update everyone as I know more.”

Jonne Koski (Crossfit)
As the 2023 Rogue Invitational CrossFit got underway, eyes were trained on elite participants like Jonne Koski. Regarded as one of the foremost contenders, his participation promised electrifying moments. However, fate had other plans. During the arduous ‘Texas Heavy’ event, where athletes were tasked with extended running sessions with weighted rucks, Jonne faced an unfortunate ankle injury. Initial assessments downplayed the severity, fueling hopes of Koski’s continued presence in the competition.
Morning Realizations and a Heartfelt Statement
The optimism, however, was short-lived. The following morning bore witness to a stark reality: Jonne’s ankle had swelled considerably, rendering further participation in the competition unfeasible. Addressing his global community of followers and well-wishers, Koski took to Instagram, sharing,
“Devastated to announce that I cannot continue in the Rogue Invitational due to my injury. Waking up to a swollen ankle was a heartbreak, but I prioritize health above all. Grateful for all the support and looking forward to my recovery and return. 🙏 #RoadToRecovery”
The Way Forward
Koski’s untimely exit certainly casts a shadow on the event, given his stature and anticipated performance. Nevertheless, his commitment to recovery and unwavering spirit hints at brighter prospects in forthcoming competitions. His supporters, meanwhile, send waves of well wishes and await his formidable return to the CrossFit arena.
“Unfortunately, overnight my ankle swole quite a lot, and after testing some of the movements this morning, we had to make a decision to withdraw from the competition.”
