On September 2nd, Cardiff, Wales became the epicenter of strength sports as it hosted the dual event – the 2023 Giants Live World Open & World Deadlift Championships. The event featured 14 of the world’s elite strongmen, a blend of seasoned champions and emerging stars, battling through an exhaustive day of physical challenges.

Evan Singleton’s Mastery

Evan Singleton’s performance stood out, manifesting sheer dominance throughout the competition. Demonstrating unrivaled consistency, he secured a podium finish in each of the first four events. This meant that by the penultimate challenge, Singleton’s victory was already in the bag. While he opted for a strategic approach to the final event – which saw him finish last in that round – his amassed points ensured an unassailable lead and an ultimate win.

Gavin Bilton’s Ascendancy

The meteoric rise of Gavin Bilton in the strongman circuit was evident as he clinched second place. Following his first international win a few months prior, Bilton’s runner-up position at the Giants Live World Open is a testament to the leaps he’s made this year.

Shane Flowers’ Resilient Comeback

The competition was a roller coaster for Shane Flowers. Starting off slower than anticipated, Flowers faced an uphill battle. Nevertheless, he showcased resilience and a never-give-up spirit, dominating the last two events. This late surge propelled him into a tie for third place overall. When it came down to the wire, the tie-breaker went in Flowers’ favor, granting him a well-deserved bronze medal.

2023 Giants Live World Open & World Deadlift Championships: Singleton Dominates in Cardiff

Cardiff, Wales became the focal point for strength sports enthusiasts on September 2nd, as it proudly hosted the combined 2023 Giants Live World Open & World Deadlift Championships. An elite cadre of 14 strongmen – a blend of seasoned heavyweights and rising talent – engaged in a day-long test of might and mettle.

Singleton’s Stride to Victory

Evan Singleton’s unparalleled performance was the talk of the day. With a commendable consistency, he secured top positions in each of the day’s first four events. By the penultimate challenge, Singleton’s lead was unshakable. Though he took a strategic backseat in the final event, his accumulated points comfortably sealed his victory.

Bilton’s Impressive Progress

Gavin Bilton, fresh from an international win a few months prior, further solidified his rising stature in the strongman arena, clinching a proud second place at the Giants Live World Open.

Event 1: Max Deadlift (2023 World Deadlift Championships)

In a dual showcase of sheer power, the Giants Live World Open commenced with the 2023 World Deadlift Championships. The objective was singularly focused: lifting the maximum weight possible.

Hicks Takes Deadlift Crown

Graham Hicks demonstrated peerless strength by pulling an awe-inspiring 470 kilograms. It’s noteworthy that Hicks was specifically participating in the World Deadlift Championship, which means his accomplishment did not count toward the Giants Live World Open rankings.

Singleton and Heinla: A Joint Triumph

When focusing on the broader Giants Live World Open, Evan Singleton and Rauno Heinla took the spotlight. The duo deadlifted an impressive 455 kilograms, resulting in a shared victory for the event.

Underdown Shatters Records

In a special highlight of the day, guest lifter Lucy Underdown delivered a historic performance. With a staggering 318-kilogram deadlift, she set a new benchmark in the Strongwoman World Record.

Event 2:  Dumbbell Medley

The Dumbbell Medley posed a dynamic challenge for participants in the second event of the Giants Live World Open. Athletes faced a race against time, pressing a series of escalating weight dumbbells overhead.

Ziolkowski Dominates

Oskar Ziolkowski, already a shining star as the OSG European champion, solidified his prowess in strength sports by clinching the first spot. He displayed remarkable efficiency and power by pressing all five dumbbells in just 54.36 seconds, setting a benchmark no one else could match.

Luke Stoltman, another elite athlete, was the only other competitor to conquer all five dumbbells. Though delivering a commendable effort, his time of 58.36 seconds placed him in a close second, four seconds behind Ziolkowski.

The adrenaline-pumping Load & Push event in the 2023 Giant Live World Open was a spectacle of speed and strength. Athletes had the two-fold challenge of rapidly loading implements into a hefty wheelbarrow and then driving it forward to the finish line, making every second count.

Highland Oak’s Narrow Victory

Luke Stoltman, affectionately dubbed “The Highland Oak”, emerged as the king of this event. Displaying a blend of agility and power, Stoltman clinched first place. However, his victory margin was razor-thin – a mere 0.02 seconds separated him from the runner-up.

Singleton’s Close Call

Evan Singleton showcased his immense strength and speed but had to contend with second place, clocking in at 49.17 seconds. Though only fractionally behind Stoltman, in high-paced events like these, every split-second can alter the outcome.

Singleton’s Unyielding Grip

Dominating once again, Evan Singleton held steadfast, marking an awe-inspiring time of 75.03 seconds. As the wrecking ball challenged each contender’s resolve, Singleton’s grip proved to be in a league of its own, earning him his second event win of the competition.

Aryee’s Unexpected Prowess

Evans Aryee, representing Ghana, surprised many with his outstanding display of strength. Holding the ball for a commendable 69.79 seconds, Aryee marked his best performance in the 2023 Giants Live World Open, bested only by Singleton.

Securing a fifth-place finish at the esteemed 2023 World’s Strongest Man (WSM) was no small feat, followed by a commendable fourth-place at the Shaw Classic. However, it’s his back-to-back victories in two Giants Live competitions this year that truly set him apart. As the season progresses, all eyes are on Singleton, anticipating whether he will add more gold medals to his already impressive collection. Given his current form, it’s very plausible.
